COLOR ME BARBRA ~ March 30, 1966 ~ Hello, Gorgeous!...Pristine Print of the Second Television Special Starring Barbra Streisand
ABOUT THE SHOW
"Barbara Streisand's success on her first hour-long special was no lucky accident. She proved that last night when in COLOR ME BARBRA , her second annual appearance on the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), she did variations on the formula of her first show and, if anything, topped herself.
This does not mean that Miss Streisand was the constant focus of attention. Few guests could have upstaged her quite as successfully as some of her associates in the circus sequence--an anteater with whom she rubbed profiles, a baby elephant who offered her a welcoming trunk and some penguins who stomped around in their natural dress suits while Miss Streisand sang, " Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long ."
"At the Philadelphia Museum, Miss Streisand kept herself more prominently in the picture, quite literally. Wandering through long halls and labyrinthine rooms while she sang, she took her cues from paintings from tapestries and from sculpture. She became the Egyptian Nefertiti, a Modigliani girl singing at a cafe table and Marie Antoinette trying to complete a vocal version of THE MINUTE WALTZ in the shadow of the guillotine. "In color, the museum settings were magnificent, the circus was happy and Miss Streisand looked gorgeous." ~ THE NEW YORK TIMES
